Sohkastwâw Lodge
Sohkastwâw Lodge is our family-based care program. When this program was first opened, it operated as a reunification home for Indigenous families with children in the care of the government. In the past year, we have expanded our services to have greater breadth under family-based care. Below is a list of persons that can be served by our program.
Who Can We Support?
Children with behavioural issues that are difficult to parent.
Children, youth and families impacted by trauma where they would be best supported in a family environment
Children, youth and families who would benefit from culturally based programming
Sibling groups
Parents or caregivers in residential treatment for substance use or recently completed
Parents or caregivers with diminished mental and/or emotional capacity
Parents or caregivers needing intensive support to address trauma
Families with a sexual abuse history
Families with a family violence history where there have not been any reported incidents in six months or more
Families impacted by residential schools, the 60s Scoop, or other aspects of colonialism
Families better served by restorative justice programming.
Caregivers that have little relationship with the children and need to develop an attachment.
The Cree word Sohkastwâw translates to he/she is resilient. Resilience is an important component of healing as it ensures we develop compassion for ourselves. When we have compassion for ourselves, we begin to see our own value and how we belong in the world.
